What is Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory?
The classical concept of intelligence has been defined in different ways, including the abilities to; abstract thought, understanding, being self aware, communication, reasoning, learning, having emotional knowledge, retaining, planning, and problem solving. Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory seems to break it down into sections so that it is easier to understand and recognize strengths and weaknesses in yourself. Gardner was trying to broaden our approach for measuring and viewing intelligence. This helps humans understand their abilities in which we capture information and solve problems. It seems that everyone on an individual level is naturally stronger at some rather than others, although they can improve their strength at some that may be weak originally. This theory made me realize why I struggle with certain things based on my preference or that particular theory of intelligence, such as writing. Linguistic Intelligence was #7 for me while #1 and 2 were Logical-Mathematical Intelligence and Interpersonal Intelligence. This supports the idea that I have always been strong in math. I also enjoy teaching my students math, as well as, trying to find creative and engaging ways so that they can grasp the concept.
